Timpuyog Ilokandia iti Austria celebrated 11th anniversary and Induction Ball

On the occasion oft he 11th Anniversary of the Timpuyog Ilokandia iti Austria, the newly elected officers were inducted into office by Ambassador Lourdes Yparraguirre, Philippine Ambassador to Austria.

The Induction Ball was held on June 1, 2013 at the Marriott Hotel Vienna.

The Ambassador’s message extolled the Ilocanos’ persevering spirit, tireless work ethic, industry and resourcefulness.

Ilocanos were literally the first overseas adventurers and the first Overseas Filipino Workers when they ventured into the plantations of Hawaii in the early 1900s to earn a living. They were among the earliest pioneers, bringing with them along their families creating overseas Ilocano communities. And yet what is most striking among the overseas Ilokanos is the way you have managed to hold on and preserve your own language and culture even in faraway lands. Today, even third and fourth generation Ilokanos born and growing up in foreign countries can still speak the Ilokano language, imbibing a deeply felt love for your native country,“ Ambassador Yparraguirre said in her inspirational message.

Re-elected President Alex Rafanan expressed his gratitude to his fellow Ilocanos for giving him again to chance to be of service to his kababayans.

„About 3 years ago, I pledged infront of the members that I accept the responsibility as TIA President. It was not a smooth ride thereafter but I was not alone in the struggle. Over the years, together we were able to successfully implement the projects for our kababayans back home in the Philippines, as well as the planned activities for our members. For these notable accomplishments I sincerely thank my fellow officers for carrying out their duties and responsibilities faithfully. My heartfelt gratitude to all the members for their cooperation and encouragement and last but not the least to our sponsors and patrons for their valued support. Without you, we could not have achieved our goals,“ Rafanan said.

Ambassador Yparraguirre also urged the Timpuyog Ilokandia iti Austria to continue reaching out to the larger Filipino-American community and help achieve collective goals that make everyone proud of their Filipino heritage.

In an interview conducted by ABS-CBN News, Rafanan stated the purposes of the Timpuyog Ilokandia iti Austria:(a) to foster unity among Filipino-Austrians in general and among Filipinos of Ilocano descent in particular; (b) to promote the common interest and welfare of Filipinos in Austria and to enhance their cultural and social advancement; (c) to render economic and personal assistance to victims of calamities and to indigent Filipinos.
